Cape Otway Lightstation, built in 1848, is the oldest surviving lighthouse
on the Australian mainland. It is 20 metres high and 90 metres above the
sea. It is located on the narrow western entrance to the notoriously
treacherous Bass Strait where many ships were wrecked before the
lighthouse was built.
